Galvanized Iron: Previously Painted Gutters/Downpipes/ Flashings:
- If paint is blistering/peeling, scrape off all the paint with a scraper. Use paint remover in difficult areas, i.e. gutter/downpipe brackets.
- Sand down all surfaces with 80 Grit sandpaper, remove residue and wash down with a PROMINENT G.P CLEANER/WATER solution, ratio 1:6, using a 3M SCOTCH PAD. Rinse with clean running water ensuring all soapy residues are removed.
- If rust is detected, sand area well and remove rust residue.
- Apply two coats PROMINENT ULTRA PRIME at a spreading rate of 6-10m² per liter and achieving a DFT of 35µm per coat and allow curing for 24hours. If measle rust occurs apply a further 2 coats of PROMINENT ULTRA PRIME and allow 24hours curing between coats.
- NB.Do not sand between coats.
- Apply 2 final coats of PROMINENT PREMIUM ROOF, PREMIUM GLOSS, AND ULTRA GLOSS and allow curing as indicated on back of pack information.
Steel: New And Previously Painted – Window Frames, Door Frames
Sand down well with 60 Grit or 80 Grit sandpaper and/or soft steel wire brush and remove residue.
NB Where an PROMINENT ULTRA RANGE product is applied in bathrooms, please note that water based coatings take longer to harden and this must be taken into account when steam from a shower or bath can affect the coating before the hard dry period has elapsed.

- Check for rust and where necessary, spot prime with two coats of PROMINENT ULTRA PRIME (6 hours drying time between coats and then do measle corrosion inspection after 24hours).
- NB. If measle corrosion is visible after 24hours apply a further 2 coats of PROMINENT ULTRA PRIME.
- NB. Do not sand between coats
- Where paint has chipped off door frames, fill with suitable filler. Once dry, sand lightly with 100 Grit sandpaper.
- Before painting – seal around frames with an Acrylic / Polyurethane sealer (3 hours drying time).
- Apply one or two coats of PROMINENT ULTRA PRIME or UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT (24 hours drying time between coats).
- Apply two coats of PROMINENT ULTRA SHEEN / ULTRA GLOSS / PROMINENT PREMIUM GLOSS or PREMIUM NON DRIP ENAMEL (24 hours drying time between coats).

- Apply one coat of PROMINENT ACRYLIC GALVANIZED IRON PRIMER ore PROMINENT ULTRA PRIME (6 hours drying time between coats).
- Apply 2 final coats of PROMINENT PREMIUM ROOF,PREMIUM GLOSS and allow curing as indicated on back of pack information.
