Previously Painted – Rhinoboard, Asbestos And Concrete:
Determine the condition of the surface and what type of paint was previously applied. If fungi growth is evident, wash down with PROGOLD FUNGAL WASH/Water solution 1:10 using a 3M Scotch Pad, rinse with clean water and leave to dry. Where paint has peeled leaving an indentation after scraping off, apply one coat of PROMINENT PLASTER PRIMER to the area (16 hours drying time), fill area with PROGOLD READYMIX CRACK FILLER (drying time depends on thickness of application) and when dry, apply one coat of PROMINENT PLASTER PRIMER over the PROGOLD READYMIX CRACK FILLER (16 hours drying time), then:
- Sand down with 80 Grit sandpaper.
- Remove sanding residue with a damp cloth.
- Check nail heads and steel cover strips and if rust is evident, apply two coats of PROMINENT ULTRA PRIME (6 hours drying time between coats and then do measle corrosion inspection after 24hours).
- NB. If measle corrosion is visible after 24hours apply a further 2 coats of PROMINENT ULTRA PRIME.
- NB.Do not sand between coats.
- Fill all holes/cracks with PROGOLD READYMIX CRACK FILLER and spot prime when dry with PROMINENT PLASTER PRIMER (16 hours drying time).
- Fill any gaps between ceiling boards and cornices, and between cornices and walls with Acrylic Gap Filler/Acrylic Polyurethane sealer.
- Where water marks appear, apply a coat of PROMINENT UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT (18 hours drying time) and where dampness appears on concrete ceilings apply a coat of PROMINENT DAMPCURE (24 hours drying time) after removing all paint to bare substrate.
- If an acrylic paint was used previously, apply two coats of Acrylic PVA paint e.g. , PROMINENT PROMODEK, PROMINENT PREMIUM MATT (6 hours drying time between coats). If an oil based paint was used previously, apply two coats of an oil based paint (16 hours drying time between coats). Clean oil based applicators with Turpentine.
- Where there is a steam or moisture atmosphere, apply one coat of PROMINENT UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT (18 hours drying time) followed by two coats of PROMINENT PREMIUMEGGSHELL ENAMEL/PROMINENT PREMIUM NON DRIP ENAMEL. PROMINENT ULTRA SHEEN/ULTRA MATT ANDPROMINENT ULTRA GLOSS (24 hours drying time between coats).

- If fungi growth is evident, wash with PROGOLD FUNGAL WASH, rinse with clean water and leave to dry.
- Sand down well with 60 Grit sandpaper.
- Check nail heads and steel cover strips, if rust is evident, apply two coats PROMINENT ULTRA PRIME (6 hours drying time between coats and then do measle corrosion inspection after 24hours).
- NB. If measle corrosion is visible after 24hours apply a further 2 coats of PROMINENT ULTRA PRIME.

- Fill all holes/cracks with PROGOLD READYMIX CRACK FILLER and spot prime when dry with PROMINENT DAMPCURE (24 hours drying time).
- Fill any gaps between ceiling boards and cornices, and between cornices and walls with ACRYLIC GAP FILLER/ACRYLIC/POLYURETHANE SEALER.
- Sand areas where cracks were filled/repaired.
- Remove residue with a damp Turpentine cloth.
New – Plastered With Cretestone/Rhinolite/Glass Stone:
- Dust the area, but DO NOT sand down surface before applying a primer coat of PROMINENT PLASTER PRIMER or PROMINENT DAMPCURE (24 hours drying).
- Ensure to inspect the PROMINENT PLASTER PRIMER and PROMINENT DAMPCURE applications to ensure that the RHINOLITE and CRETESTONE and GLASS STONE is fully covered as failing in doing so will cause delaminating of final coats.
- Sand down lightly with 100 Grit sandpaper and remove residue where necessary.
- Apply two coats of Acrylic PVA e.g. PROMINENT PROMODEK/WALL PRIMER/PROMINENT FILLERCOAT or PROMINENT PREMIUM MATT.
New – Rhinoboard, Fibre Cement And Concrete:

- Spot prime over nailheads and bishop strips with PROMINENT UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT. Allow 3 hours to dry before skimming over nail heads with PROGOLD READYMIX CRACK FILLER. Allow 18 hours to dry before sanding with 100 Grit sandpaper. Spot prime over filler with PROMINENT UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT.
- Fill gaps between cornices and ceiling boards, including cornices and walls with an Acrylic/ Polyurethane sealer.
- Apply two coats of Acrylic PVA e.g. PROMINENT PROMINENT PROMODEK, PROMINENT FILLERCOAT, PROMINENT WALL PRIMER or PROMINENT PREMIUM MATT to entire ceiling at the rate of 5m² per litre (first coat) and 7m² per litre (second coat). Allow 6 hours drying time between coats.
- Spot prime over nailheads and jointing strips with PROMINENT UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT(Allow 18 hours to dry).
- Fill all gaps between cornices and ceiling boards including cornices and walls with an Acrylic/ Polyurethane sealer.
- Apply two final coats of Acrylic PVA e.g. PROMINENT PROMODEK, PROMINENT FILLERCOAT or PROMINENT WALL PRIMER to entire ceiling at the rate of 5m² per litre (first coat) and 7m² per litre (second coat). Allow 6hours drying time between coats.
- Check for oil/grease used after steel shuttering has been removed. If visible scrub off with a PROGOLD GP CLEANER/water solution ratio 1:6 and rinse off with clean water.
- Remove any cement spatter and sand well with 60 Grit sandpaper and remove residue.
- Apply a coat of PROMINENT DAMPCURE at the rate of 5m² per litre, allow 24 hours to dry. Use a moisture meter to determine moisture level. Moisture level must be below 15% before applying one or two final coats of Acrylic PVA e.g. PROMINENTPROMODEK, PROMINENT FILLERCOAT, PROMINENT WALL PRIMER or PROMINENT PREMIUM MATT (4 hours drying time between coats).
