Interior walls

Walls: New - Where Walls Have Numerous Hairline Cracks Or Areas Where Trowel Marks Are Evident:

  • Ensure that the condition of the substrate is sound e.g. cement plaster is not friable.
  • Brush down all dust and loose material on raw plaster.
  • If moisture is below 15% apply one coat of PROMINENT  PROMODEK, PROMINENT  FILLERCOAT or PROMINENT  WALL PRIMER.
  • Remove all plaster spatter and spot prime over these areas with above-mentioned in point 2.
  • Fill holes/cracks (other than hairline cracks) with PROGOLD READYMIX CRACK FILLER (4 hours drying time). Spot prime over fillers with PROMINENT  DAMPCURE (24 hours drying time).
Sand down well with 80 Grit sandpaper and remove all residue with a soft bristle broom. NO FURTHER patching or filling to be done once the spot priming is done:
  • Apply one coat of PROMINENT  PREMIUM TEXTURED at 4-5m² per litre (6 hours drying time).
  • Apply one or two final coats of superior acrylic PVA e.g. PROMINENT  PREMIUM SATIN or PROMINENT  PREMIUM SHEEN at 5m² per litre (6 hours drying time between coats).
  • There is the alternative choice of applying one coat of PROMINENT  RIPPLE COURSE, PROMINENT  RIPPLE COARSE or PROMINENT  RIPPLE SMOOTH, PROMINENT  RIPPLE TROWEL ON or PROMINENT  TEXTURE CRETE over the walls prepared as in points 1-4 to obtain a textured finish/effect on the walls.

Walls: Previously Painted–Plastered And Painted With Acrylic:

Determine the condition of the surface and what type of paint was previously applied. Check all walls with a moisture meter before painting. If moisture content is above 15% check and remedy the cause of the moisture ingress, then
  • Sand down with 80 Grit sandpaper and wipe off residue.
  • Before filling cracks, spot prime in cracks with PROMINENT  DAMPCURE 24 hours drying time) fill cracks with PROGOLD READYMIX CRACK FILLER (drying time depends on thickness of application).
  • Spot prime over PROGOLD READYMIX CRACK FILLER with PROMINENT  DAMPCURE and when dry, measure for moisture. If below 15% then:
  • Apply two coats of superior quality PVA e.g. PROMINENT  PREMIUM SATIN, PROMINENT  PREMIUM SHEEN or PROMINENT  PREMIUM MATT (6 hours drying time between coats).
OR If excessive moisture is evident, determine the cause of the moisture and remedy, then
  • Sand down damp area with 100 Grit sandpaper to remove all previous paint coatings and fillers to original plaster substrate.
Apply two coats of PROMINENT  DAMPCURE (24 hours drying time). Do a further moisture check and if moisture is below 15% then:
  • Apply two coats of PROMINENT  PREMIUM SATIN, PROMINENT  PREMIUM SHEEN or PROMINENT PREMIUM MATT (6 hours drying time between coats).
If moisture persists above 15%, apply a further coat of PROMINENT  DAMPCURE and check for moisture at regular intervals. When the moisture content drops to 15%, only then can a final coat be applied i.e. PROMINENT  PREMIUM SATIN, PROMINENT  PREMIUM SHEEN or PROMINENT  PREMIUM MATT.

Walls: New – Cement Plastered:

Where walls are sound and moisture content is 15% or less:
  • Remove all plaster spatter and brush down surfaces with a soft bristle broom.
  • Apply one coat of PROMINENT WALL PRIMER, PROMINENT PROMODEK or PROMINENT FILLERCOAT (6 hours drying time).
  • NB: In bathroom and kitchen areas, apply one coat of PROMINENT DAMPCURE at 5m² per litre to walls and ceilings (24 hours drying time).
  • Apply two coats of superior quality PVA e.g. PROMINENT PREMIUM SHEEN, PROMINENT PREMIUM MATT, PROMINENT ULTRA SHEEN or PROMINENT ULTRA MATT.
 OR
  • Remove all plaster spatter and brush down surfaces with a soft bristle broom.
  • In case of poor quality plaster with insufficient amount of cement apply one coat of PROMINENT SURFACE RESTORER (24 hours drying time).
  • Apply two coats of superior quality acrylic PVA e.g. PROMINENT PREMIUM MATT, PROMINENT PREMIUM SHEEN, PROMINENT ULTRA MATT or ULTRA SHEEN (6hours drying time between coats).
 OR
Bathroom and kitchen Where moisture content is below 15%
  • Apply one coat of PROMINENT DAMPCURE (24 hours drying time).
  • Apply two coats of PROMINENT ULTRA SHEEN or PROMINENT ULTRA GLOSS (24 hours drying time between coats) i.e. kitchen, bathroom walls.
  • Apply two coats PROMINENT PREMIUM EGGSHELL ENAMEL/PROMINENT PREMIUM NON DRIP ENAMEL to shower area (24 hours drying time between coats).
Where walls are sound and moisture is less than 40%:
  • Remove all plaster spatter and brush down surfaces with a soft bristle broom.
  • Check on firm plaster surfaces for signs of dampness, apply one or two coats of PROMINENT DAMPCURE (24 hours drying time) and re-check moisture content on walls. Wait until moisture drops to 15%.
  • Where moisture is below 15%, apply two coats of superior quality acrylic PVA e.g. PROMINENT PREMIUM MATT, PROMINENT PREMIUM SHEEN, PROMINENT ULTRA SHEEN or PROMINENT ULTRA MATT (6 hours drying time between coats).
  • WALLS: PLASTERED – PREVIOUSLY PAINTED WITH AN OIL BASED PAINT
Where moisture content is below 15%:
  • Sand down with 80 Grit sandpaper and remove residue.
  • Open up any cracks/holes. Before filling with PROGOLD READYMIX CRACK FILLER, spot prime in crevices/holes with PROMINENT DAMPCURE (24 hours drying time), fill with PROGOLD READYMIX CRACK FILLER (drying time is dependant on wet film thickness).
Apply one coat of PROMINENT DAMPCURE over the fillers (24 hours drying time). Retest for moisture over the fillers, if below 15%, then:
  • Wash down walls with a PROGOLD G.P. CLEANER/Water solution, ratio 1:6, using a 3M Scotchbrite Pad Medium. Rinse off surfaces with clean water.

Walls: New – Plastered With Glass Stone/Rhinolite/Cretestone:

Test all surfaces with a moisture meter. If moisture is 15% or less, then:
  • DO NOT SAND DOWN before applying one coat of PROMINENT   PLASTER PRIMER (24 hours drying time) or PROMINENT  DAMPCURE (24 hours drying time).
