A high quality acrylic based on a pure adhesion promoted emulsion which contains carefully selected pigments that make it possible to use on galvanised iron.

Prominent Galvanised Iron Primer is available in the following sizes: 1lt and 5lt 


Description

Appearance: Low sheen.
Spreading Rate: 8 m²/litre on galvanised iron depending on the surface texture.
Solids: ± 50% by mass and ± 44% by volume.
Density: 1,36 kg/litre.
Recommended Dry Film Thickness: 45 µm per coat minimum.
Viscosity: 95 Kµ.
Flash Point: Non-flammable.

Storage:

  • Keep containers properly sealed.
  • Store away from direct heat, sun and severe cold in a place with adequate ventilation.

Features

  • Adhesion: Excellent adhesion to firm, clean, rust free galvanised iron.
  • Overcoating: Can be overcoated with Prominent Universal Undercoat, Prominent Gloss Enamel and emulsion paints with high resin content after 24 hours at 23°C.
  • Waterbased: Easy to clean, easy to apply.
  • 100% lead free.

Intended Usages

  • For application on non-rusted galvanised iron surfaces.

Application Details

  • Mixing: Stir before use with a flat paddle to an even consistency. Stir occasionally during use.
  • Method: Roller, brush or airless spray.
  • Thinning: Not recommended.
  • Cleaning: Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with warm, soapy water.

Conditions:

  • Temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
  • Relative humidity of less than 75%, preferably between 10: 00 and 16: 00.

Drying time:
1 hour at 23°C.
Note:  Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).

Recoating time: 4 hours at 23°C.

Overcoating time:
 24 hours at 23°C.

Requirements: 1-2 coats.

Surface Preparations
Non-rusted galvanised iron:

  • Clean with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1: 5) and scouring pad to remove all traces of dirt and white rust.
  • Rinse with clean water, allow drying and apply directly.

Rusted galvanised iron:

  • Remove all loose rust and dirt.
  • Clean with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1: 5) and scouring pads to remove all traces of dirt and white rust.
  • Rinse with clean water, allow drying and apply one or two proper coats of Prominent Rust Primer.

Limitations

  • Must be used only as a primer and not as a finishing coat.
  • Exterior surfaces must not be exposed to rain within 12 hours of application.
  • Application conditions must be adhered to.
  • Prominent Galvanised Iron Primer should not be overcoated with Prominent Machinery Enamel products and other strong solvent products e.g. Prominent 2 Pack Polyurethane Floor Coating.
  • Product not UV resistant.
  • Prominent Galvanised Iron Primer cannot be used on rusted galvanised iron.

Safety

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Ensure to maintain good ventilation during application and drying process.
  • In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
  • If product is ingested drink plenty of water or milk. Do not induce vomiting at any time. Seek medical advice.
  • Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed information about the product and transportation and classification criteria. MSDS is available on www.prominentpaints.co.za or from Prominent Customer Service Department.
  • To avoid any risk of spillage, always transport in a secure upright position.
