Description

Appearance: Matt finish
Colours: White. Tinting not recommended.
Solids: ± 50% by mass and ± 30% by volume.
Density: ± 1,39kg/l.
Recommended Dry Film Thickness: ±40µm per coat.
Spreading Rate: 4 - 8m²/l dependent on surface porosity and texture.
Viscosity at 23°C: ± 110Kµ.
Flash Point: Non-flammable.
Respecting the environment: 100% Lead Free. Dispose of excess product and containers in a responsible manner without harming the environment.

This product is manufactured under strict SABS ISO 9001 quality standards.

Storage:

  • Keep containers properly sealed.
  • Store away from direct heat, sun and severe cold in a place with adequate ventilation.

Intended Usages

  • Direct application to sound interior and exterior cement plaster as a primer (Not recommended for scratch plaster, Terylene Plaster, Rhinolite and Gypsum plaster).
  • Direct application to prepared gypsum ceiling boards.

Application Details

  • Mixing: Stir well before use with a flat paddle to a homogenous consistency. Stir occasionally during use.
  • Method: Roller, brush and airless spray.
  • Thinning: Not recommended.
  • Cleaning: Tap water. Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with water.

Conditions:

  • Surface Temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
  • Ambient Temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
  • Relative humidity between 10% and 85%.
  • Ideally apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point.
  • If possible away from direct sunlight.

Drying time:

  • Touch dry: 30 minutes at 23ºC.
  • Overcoating: 4h at 23ºC.
  • Full cure: 7 – 21 day depending on weather conditions.
  • Ideally apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point.
  • If possible away from direct sunlight.
Note: Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10⁰C increase) whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying times (approximately doubled for every 10⁰C decrease).

Requirements:

2 coats minimum.

Surface Preparations

Surfaces must be sound, clean and dry. Allow new plaster to cure for 21 days (moisture content below 15% before painting. Plaster sand to comply with SABS 1090 requirements. Plaster mix must have a minimum thickness of 10mm, free from soft and friable material and comply with SABS 0164-1 for strength (MPA).

New work:

1. Interior cement plaster - Direct, no primer required.
2. Exterior cement plaster - Direct, no primer required.
3. Gypsum ceiling boards - Direct, no primer required.
4. Rhinolited surfaces - Prime with one coat of Prominent Paints Select Plaster Primer..
5. Partitioning Board - Prime with one coat of Prominent Paints Select Plaster Primer..

Redecorating:

1. Sound condition - Sand to matt finish, clean with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner diluted 1:10 with water, allow drying and apply directly.
2. Powdered or Chalky - Clean the surface with high pressure water to remove chalkiness or sand with P80 sandpaper and clean with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner diluted 1:10 with water and abrasive pad to remove chalkiness. Rinse with portable water. Allow drying before applying a coat of Prominent Paints Select Bonding Liquid.
3. Blistering, loose & flaking paint - Clean the surface with high pressure water and/or by scraping, wire brush or sand with P80 sandpaper. Remove dust. Apply 1 coat Prominent Paints Select High Cover if the surface proves to be sound.
4. Gloss & Semi Gloss acrylic surfaces - Sand to a matt finish with fine sandpaper to provide a good key. Remove dust and apply directly.
5. Gloss & Semi Gloss enamel surfaces - Sand to a matt finish with fine sandpaper to provide a good key. Remove dust and apply 1 coat Prominent Select Universal Undercoat.
6. Moisture infect walls - Consult Prominent Paints Technical Department.

It is advisable to test the compatibility of Select High Cover on the prepared previously painted surfaces. Paint a small section and test the adhesion after 24 hours by applying a strip of masking tape and attempt to rip the paint off. If the adhesion result proves to be good then proceed with painting.

Limitations

  • Not to be used on rhinolite and fibre cement as a direct application.
  • Cannot be applied in cold or wet rainy conditions below 10⁰C. 
  • Product cannot accommodate excessive movement, i.e. hairline cracking or application onto flexible coatings like textured coats and waterproofing systems.
  • Not recommended for areas where good durability is required.
  • Prominent Paints Select High Cover is not designed for tinting
  • Thinning of Prominent Paints Select High Cover will reduce the opacity.
  • Can only be applied under specified conditions

Safety

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Ensure to maintain good ventilation during application and drying process.
  • Wear a suitable dust mask if sanding.
  • In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
  • If product is ingested drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting at any time. Seek medical advice.
  • Do not smoke while painting
  • Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed information about the product and transportation and classification criteria. MSDS is available on www.prominentpaints.co.za or from Prominent Customer Service Department.
  • To avoid any risk of spillage, always transport in a secure upright position.
